City View Mustangs Varsity fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 11-1 loss to Whitewright on Saturday. Whitewright scored on a double by Marshall Mangrum, an error, a double by Jake Claborn, and an error in the first inning.
The City View Mustangs Varsity struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Whitewright, giving up 11 runs.
Whitewright got things moving in the first inning. Mangrum doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Whitewright scored five runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Whitewright came thanks to singles by Claborn and Jace Andrew, by Austin Testerman, and an error on a ball put in play by Tim Richey.
Claborn was the winning pitcher for Whitewright. He allowed three hits and one run over three innings, striking out seven and walking one. Mangrum threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Jackson York took the loss for City View Mustangs Varsity. He went three innings, allowing nine runs on five hits and striking out one.
Tyler Wilson went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead City View Mustangs Varsity in hits.
Claborn led Whitewright with three hits in three at bats. Whitewright didn’t commit a single error in the field. Hill had nine chances in the field, the most on the team.
