City View wins Mesquite Pit Classic

POOLVILLE – Jordan Lucas scored 23 points Saturday night, leading the City View Mustangs to a 59-51 victory against Whitewright and claiming the Mesquite Pit Classic championship.

Lucas scored 14 points in the second half. He was named to the all-tournament team for his effort.

Jason Luster joined Lucas on the all-tournament team, and Jayln Marks was named Most Valuable Player.

City View defeated Bellevue to open the tournament Thursday. They beat Christoval in the quarterfinals and Jim Ned in the semifinals.

City View earns spot in tournament finals

POOLVILLE – City View won its third game of the Mesquite Pit Classic, beating Jim Ned 66-54 in the tournament semifinals Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Mustangs advance to the tournament finals which will be played at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

City View led 50-47 after three quarters, but pulled away by outscoring Jim Ned 16-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Mustangs made 12 3-pointers, Jason Luster and Jordan Lucas each made four, while Isaiah Marks made two. Lucas led the team with 14 points while Jason Luster and Jayln Marks both scored 13 points. Isaiah Marks added 12 points.

City View will play either Forsan or Whitewright Saturday night in the championship.

The Mustangs advanced to the semifinals by defeating Christoval 52-47.

The Mustangs held a 22-14 lead after the first quarter and never surrendered it. Brother Jason and JD Luster led the City View attack with a combined 22 points.

The Mustangs blew out Bellevue, 83-46, in their first game of the tournament Thursday. Jordan Lucas scored a game-high 29 with Jason Luster adding 15 and Jayln Marks 12.
